Packaging Specification in SAP EWM
This blog will discuss the packaging specification in SAP EWM.
Packaging Specification
Packaging Specifications in SAP EWM are essential for defining how products are packed in various stages of the warehouse process. These specifications include the rules and methods for packing, such as the type of packaging material used, the packing hierarchy, and other relevant details. Here are the key steps to configure Packaging Specifications in SAP EWM:
1. Define Packaging Specification Types
Packaging specification types categorize the different kinds of packaging specifications you will use in your warehouse.
Transaction: /SCWM/PACKSPEC
Path: SAP Easy Access -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Maintain Packaging Specifications -> Define Packaging Specification Types
2. Create Packaging Specifications
Create the actual packaging specifications, which include the details on how products should be packed.
Transaction: /SCWM/PACKSPEC
Path: SAP Easy Access -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Maintain Packaging Specifications -> Create Packaging Specification
3. Define Packaging Material
Packaging materials are the actual items used for packing, such as boxes, pallets, and wrapping materials.
Transaction: MM01 (to create packaging material in Material Master)
Path: SAP Easy Access -> Logistics -> Material Master -> Material -> Create (General) -> Immediately
4. Assign Packaging Specification to Packaging Material
Link the packaging specifications to the packaging materials to ensure that the correct materials are used for packing according to the defined specifications.

Path: SAP Easy Access -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Work Center -> Maintain Work Center
6. Assign Packaging Specifications to Warehouse Processes
Ensure that the appropriate packaging specifications are used during different warehouse processes by linking them to these processes.
Transaction: /SCWM/WPT
Path: SAP Easy Access -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Warehouse Process Types -> Maintain Warehouse Process Types
7. Configure Packaging Profile
The packaging profile contains the rules and methods for packing, which can be linked to different warehouse processes and packing instructions.
Transaction: /SCWM/PPROF
Path: SAP Easy Access -> Extended Warehouse Management -> Master Data -> Packaging Profile -> Maintain Packaging Profile
8. Create and Manage Packing Instructions
Define detailed packing instructions to guide warehouse staff on how to pack items according to the packaging specifications.
