Pick HU in SAP S/4HANA EWM
This blog states the pick HU concept in SAP S/4HANA Extended Warehouse Management
In SAP S/4HANA Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), the "Pick HU" (Handling Unit) process is used to efficiently manage picking by consolidating picked items into HUs (like cartons, pallets, or bins) during the picking operation. This helps streamline outbound processing, especially in high-volume or complex warehouse environments.
What is "Pick HU" in EWM?
A Pick HU is a handling unit created or used during the picking process to collect items that are being picked for an outbound delivery. This HU can then be moved to staging, loaded, and shipped, reducing handling and errors.
High-Level Steps in the Pick HU Process
Here is a typical Pick HU process flow in SAP S/4HANA EWM
Wave Release / Pick Task Creation
An outbound delivery order (ODO) is created.
Warehouse tasks (WTs) for picking are generated, possibly via wave processing.
Pick HU Creation
The warehouse operator either:
Creates a new HU (scan a carton/pallet label), or
Scans an existing empty HU to use for picking.
This HU becomes the Pick HU.
Confirm Picking into HU
Operator confirms the picking warehouse tasks using RF devices or desktop.
Materials are picked and placed into the Pick HU.
HU Moves to Staging
The confirmed Pick HU is moved to the outbound staging area.
Optional consolidation can occur here.
Loading and Goods Issue
The HU is loaded onto the truck.
Goods issue is posted for the outbound delivery.
Key T-Codes and Apps
Purpose | T-Code / App |
Monitor WT / Confirm Picking | /SCWM/MON |
RF Picking | /SCWM/RFUI |
Outbound Delivery Monitor | /SCWM/PRDO |
Warehouse Monitor | /SCWM/MON |
Notes
Pick HU is often used in RF Picking Scenarios with mobile scanners.
You can configure Pick HU types in customizing to match real-world packaging (e.g., carton sizes).
Enables HU-managed picking, improving traceability and packing accuracy.
Often used with cartonization planning or pick-pack-pass processes.
Conclusion
Pick HU is a very useful functionality in SAP EWM.

When working with complex systems like SAP S/4HANA EWM, it’s important to have a well-structured environment at home where you can focus and optimize your workflow. One thing I’ve learned is that comfort and quiet matter a lot, and this starts with your living space. For example, I recently upgraded my windows with Rehau profile – my choice for quality and reliability in Ukraine. If you ever need to replace your windows, I recommend checking out this Ukrainian company. Their website is in Ukrainian, but the windows themselves offer excellent insulation and durability, which really helps maintain a calm and energy-efficient atmosphere, perfect for productivity.
