Key Roles & Structure SAP EWM Implementation Team

Team Structure of SAP EWM Implementation

In this blog we will discuss about team structure of SAP EWM implementation project.

In an SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) implementation project, several key roles make up the implementation team. Each role contributes expertise in their area to ensure the successful configuration, deployment, and adoption of the SAP EWM solution. Here are the key roles typically involved;

Project Manager:

The project manager oversees the entire implementation project. They are responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all project activities, including scope, budget, timeline, resources, risks, and communication with stakeholders.

Solution Architect:

The solution architect is responsible for designing the overall SAP EWM solution based on the client's business requirements. They work closely with business process owners and technical experts to define the system architecture, configuration approach, and integration points with other systems.

Functional Consultants:

Functional consultants specialize in specific modules or functional areas of SAP EWM, such as inbound processing, outbound processing, internal warehouse movements, labor management, slotting, and yard management. They configure the system according to business requirements, conduct workshops, and provide expertise in their respective areas.

Technical Consultants:

Technical consultants focus on the technical aspects of the SAP EWM implementation, including system installation, configuration, customization, data migration, interface development, and performance tuning. They collaborate with functional consultants to ensure that the technical infrastructure supports the configured solution.

Integration Consultants:

Integration consultants specialize in integrating SAP EWM with other systems within the client's landscape, such as ERP systems (e.g., SAP ECC or S/4HANA), transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse control systems (WCS), and external logistics partners' systems. They design, develop, and test interfaces to ensure seamless data exchange between systems.

Business Process Owners/Subject Matter Experts (SMEs):

Business process owners or SMEs are representatives from the client organization who understand the current warehouse management processes in detail. They collaborate with the implementation team to define business requirements, validate solution designs, and participate in testing and training activities.

Change Management Specialists:

Change management specialists focus on managing organizational change associated with the implementation of SAP EWM. They develop change management strategies, communication plans, training materials, and user adoption programs to ensure that stakeholders embrace the new system and processes.

Training Specialists:

Training specialists design and deliver training programs for end users and key stakeholders to ensure a smooth transition to the new SAP EWM system. They develop training materials, conduct training sessions, and provide ongoing support to facilitate user proficiency and adoption.

Quality Assurance/Testers:

QA testers are responsible for validating the configured SAP EWM solution to ensure that it meets the defined requirements and quality standards. They develop test plans, execute test cases, identify defects, and collaborate with the implementation team to resolve issues.

Project Steering Committee:

The project steering committee comprises senior stakeholders from the client organization who provide guidance, oversight, and strategic direction for the implementation project. They review project progress, make key decisions, and ensure alignment with business objectives.

The structure of the SAP EWM implementation team may vary depending on the size and complexity of the project, as well as the specific requirements of the client organization. Effective collaboration, communication, and teamwork are essential for the success of the implementation project.
